Breaded Fried Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients

  • 500g large prawns, cleaned and peeled (leave the tail on)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1 cup panko flour or breadcrumbs
  • Frying oil
  • Tartar sauce or lemon to serve

How to prepare

Prepare the prawns: 

Season the prawns with salt, black pepper and lemon juice. Leave to marinate for 10-15 minutes.

Bread the prawns: 

Roll each shrimp in wheat flour, then in beaten eggs and finally in panko or breadcrumbs, pressing lightly so that the breading adheres well.

Heat the oil: 

Heat the oil in a deep frying pan or saucepan over medium-high heat until it reaches 180ºC. Test the temperature with a kitchen thermometer or by throwing in a small piece of bread; it should brown in about 30 seconds.

Fry the prawns: 

Fry the prawns in small portions to prevent the oil temperature from dropping. Fry until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove and leave to drain on paper towels.

Serve: 

Serve immediately with tartar sauce or slices of lemon.
