Maid is about strength, motherhood, resilience and dignity.
Get ready for an exciting marathon.

4# Unbelievable (8 episodes)

Total duration: approx. 7 hours
Where to watch: Netflix

Inspired by a true story, this miniseries shocks, revolts and moves.

The plot revolves around Marie, a young woman accused of lying about a rape - while two detectives in another city investigate similar cases.

It's a crime thriller with a touch of drama.
But above all, it's a critique of the justice system and the way victims are treated.

The steering is sensitive.
The rhythm is engaging.
And the performances are top-notch.

Unbelievable is intense, necessary and perfect for those looking for something that goes beyond fiction.

5# The Night Of (8 episodes)

Total duration: approx. 8 hours
Where to watch: HBO Max

Imagine being accused of a crime you don't know you committed.

The Night Of is a miniseries that delves into the American justice system, following the trajectory of a young Pakistani man accused of murder.

The script is brilliant.
The suspense is well-dosed.
And the atmosphere is dense from start to finish.

More than a criminal investigation, the series shows how the system can transform - or destroy - a life.

If you like stories that make you think about justice, prejudice and humanity, this one is a must-see.

6# Eyes that condemn (When They See Us - 4 episodes)

Total duration: approx. 4h30
Where to watch: Netflix

To close the list with a flourish (and tears), we have one of the most impactful miniseries of recent years.

Eyes that condemn tells the true story of the "Central Park Five", black and Latino teenagers who were wrongly convicted of a brutal crime in New York.

Each episode focuses on a stage in their lives - from arrest to trial, including the traumas they experienced in the system.

It's impossible to watch without being moved.
It's impossible to come out of the last episode the same as you went in.

It's a series about racism, injustice, pain - but also about resistance and dignity.

Who hasn't waited in a bank queue for hours to solve a simple problem? Or called customer service and fell into a loop of unresolved answering machines? If these scenes are part of your life, maybe it's time to rethink your relationship with your bank.

Today digital banks are winning over more and more Brazilians. And it's no coincidence. They are more practical, accessible, modern and, more often than not, more economical.

But is it really worth leaving the traditional seat behind? Or is it too early for that change?

What is a digital bank?

First of all, let's align the terms.

Digital banks are financial institutions that run 100% online. This means that you can do everything through the app: open an account, transfer money, request a card, pay a boleto, talk to support, invest and even request credit.

They don't have physical branches. But they have intuitive apps, fast service and solutions designed for modern life.

Examples of digital banks in Brazil:

  • Nubank
  • C6 Bank
  • Inter Bank
  • Neon
  • PagBank
  • Mercado Pago (works as a digital account)

These institutions are authorized and supervised by the Central Bank, just like any traditional bank.

Why are so many people migrating?

Simple: less headache and more control in the palm of your hand.

Many people are switching from traditional to digital banking because they are tired of the fees, the bureaucracy and the difficulty in solving simple things.

What's more, technology has come a long way. Today, you can have a complete account without having to set foot in an agency. And that, for most people, is an enormous freedom.

The advantages of digital banking

1# No fees (or much lower fees)

Most digital banks offer accounts without monthly fees. No maintenance fees, no annual card fees, no transfer fees.

Meanwhile, many traditional banks still charge for simple services such as issuing a statement or making a TED.

If you're looking to save money, this difference will already weigh on your pocket.

2# Ease of use

The app experience is designed to be simple. Everything works with just a few clicks. You can solve in minutes what can take days in a traditional bank.

What's more, service is usually quick via chat - no need to call, wait or explain everything from scratch each time.

3# Card with debit and credit function in the same place

Most digital banks send a physical card that works for both debit and credit (if approved). They also release the virtual card for secure online purchases.

All this with no annual fee and total control via the app.

4# Pix integrated and free

In digital banking, the Pix works more smoothly. There's no absurd daily usage limit, the money drops instantly and the process is quick.

You can copy, paste, schedule and follow up with ease - something that some traditional banks still complicate.

5# Access to investments directly in the app

Forget the idea that only your manager can help you invest. With digital banks, you can invest your money autonomously.

Tesouro Direto, CDBs, funds and even cryptocurrencies are just a few taps on the screen away - with clear information and no catches.

6# Automatic balance yield

In some digital banks, such as Nubank, Inter and PagBank, the money sitting in the account yields automatically. It's as if the account were also a savings account, only with a better return.

In traditional banks, the money sitting in the current account simply doesn't yield anything.

7# Ideal for those who want to keep better track of their finances

The digital banking app usually shows graphs, spending categories, a complete history and even a budget alert.

For those who want to learn how to take care of their money, this helps a lot.

But what about the downsides?

Of course, it's not all flowers. It's important to look at the other side too:

1# Lack of physical agency

If you like to solve problems in person or don't trust digital very much, you may miss having an agency nearby.

But it's worth remembering that, today, almost everything can be solved safely remotely.

2# Service 100% online

Although chat service has evolved, some digital banks are still slow to respond at peak times.

On the other hand, in traditional banks, getting through to the manager isn't always easy either.

3# Low initial limits

Some digital banks release credit little by little as you move your account.

If you already have a high limit at another bank and use it frequently, it may take a while to have the same at digital.

4# Lack of some specialized services

Some digital banks still don't offer all the services that traditional banks do, such as consortia, specific financing or bulk exchange.

If you use these products, you may need to keep at least one traditional account as a backup.

Is it worth changing in 2025?

In most cases, yes. Especially if you:

  • You pay fees at your current bank
  • You're tired of bureaucracy
  • Likes to solve everything on his cell phone
  • You want to take more control of your money
  • Looking for economy and practicality

You can even start without closing your traditional account. Test it out. Run the digital bank for a while. See if it adapts. If everything goes well, then you can make the complete migration.

Many people have both - and this is also true. They use the digital bank for day-to-day banking and keep the traditional one for specific cases.

What about the elderly or people who don't know how to use the app?

This is a common concern. But little by little, apps are becoming more accessible, with larger fonts, simple commands and humanized support.

What's more, you can always help those who have more difficulty. Teaching people the basics of the app can free them from unnecessary queues and fees.

Technology needs to include - not exclude. And digital banks are gradually moving towards this.

What about security?

Digital banks follow the same rules as traditional banks. They are regulated by the Central Bank and use advanced cryptography.

Of course, you need to do your bit:

  • Use strong passwords
  • Enable two-factor authentication
  • Avoid clicking on suspicious links

By following these precautions, your account will be protected like any other.

What if there's a problem?

All digital banks have chat or email support. And if necessary, you can contact Procon, the Central Bank or even file public complaints on platforms such as Reclame Aqui.

The difference is that, because they are more modern, many solve problems more quickly.

O mercantilism was the main economic policy adopted by European countries between the 15th and 18th centuries. Its aim was to strengthen the state by accumulating wealth, especially precious metals, and controlling trade.

The countries that adopted this practice believed that a nation's prosperity depended on exporting more than it imported, guaranteeing a positive balance of trade. This economic system influenced maritime expansion, colonialism and the exploitation of natural resources in various parts of the world.

What was mercantilism?

Mercantilism was a set of economic practices that placed the state as the major controller of the economy. Rulers implemented protectionist policies to prevent money from leaving the country, as well as encouraging domestic production and trade with the colonies. Gold and silver were seen as symbols of power, and countries did everything they could to accumulate them, including exploiting colonized territories and imposing strict trade rules.

Main characteristics of mercantilism

1# Accumulation of precious metals (metalism)

Gold and silver were considered to be a country's greatest riches. For this reason, many European countries invested in the exploitation of colonies and the search for precious metals, especially in America. The aim was to keep state coffers full and guarantee economic and military power.

2# Favorable trade balance

Mercantilist countries tried to sell more than they bought, i.e. export more than they imported. This generated a trade surplus, ensuring that more money entered than left the national economy.

3# Economic protectionism

To avoid foreign competition, governments imposed high taxes on imported products and encouraged domestic production. Protectionism strengthened industries and prevented money from being spent on products from other countries.

4# Colonialism and exploitation of the colonies

The colonies were fundamental to mercantilism, as they supplied raw materials to the metropolis and consumed the manufactured products. The colonizers prohibited the colonies from trading with other countries and exploited their natural resources to the maximum.

5# Commercial monopolies

Many nations created monopoly companies, such as the East India Company, which had the exclusive right to exploit trade in certain regions. These monopolies ensured that only the metropolis profited from colonial trade.

How did mercantilism influence the world?

Mercantilism was one of the driving forces behind the European maritime expansion. Portugal and Spain led the search for new territories, establishing colonies in America, Africa and Asia. This resulted in the creation of large colonial empires and the strengthening of international trade.

In addition, this economic policy boosted the slave trade, as African labor was used to exploit the colonies, especially in the plantations and mines of America. Mercantilism also fomented wars and disputes between European countries, as everyone wanted to secure their trade routes and expand their domains.

The end of mercantilism and the rise of liberalism

The Industrial Revolution and the ideas of economic liberalismadvocated by thinkers such as Adam SmithIn the late 18th century, mercantilism began to weaken. Free trade, competitiveness and the idea that a country's wealth did not depend solely on precious metals gained strength, ushering in a new economic era.

Mercantilism may have been replaced by new economic policies, but its impacts are still visible. Many protectionist practices and trade strategies of modern governments have their roots in this period. After all, who doesn't want to ensure a favorable trade balance and keep their economy strong?

Compulsive spending may seem to some to be just a habit of over-consumption, but it is actually a serious condition known as oneomania, or compulsive buying disorder. This psychological disorder involves an irresistible urge to shop excessively and repeatedly, often resulting in serious financial, emotional and social problems.

What is Oneomania?

Oneomania, also called compulsive buying disorder, is characterized by a persistent urge to buy that causes significant distress or harm. Unlike mere occasional excessive shopping habits, oneomania is persistent and can deteriorate the individual's quality of life.

Symptoms of Oneomania

The main symptoms include:

  • Irresistible impulse to buyFeeling a constant need to shop, even if you don't need to or can't afford to.
  • Feeling of relief when buyingBuying acts as a way of relieving negative feelings or stress, but this relief is usually temporary.
  • Negative consequences: Accumulated debts, relationship problems, feelings of guilt and shame after shopping.
  • Hiding the problemCompulsive buyers often try to hide their purchases or debts from friends and family.

Causes of Oneomania

Oneomania can be triggered by various factors, often a combination of genetics, environmental factors and psychological issues. Studies suggest that people with oneomania often have low self-esteem, and the act of buying serves as a form of compensation. In addition, anxiety, depression and other disorders can coexist or contribute to the development of oneomania.

Treatment for Oneomania

The treatment of oneomania involves multidisciplinary approaches, often including psychological therapy and, in some cases, medication. Here are some commonly recommended treatment options:

1#. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

This form of therapy helps to modify the individual's patterns of thought and behavior, teaching techniques for resisting the urge to buy and ways of dealing with stress in a healthier way.

2#. Financial Advice

Specialized professionals can help create financial management plans that restrict immediate access to financial resources, such as credit cards, and help with debt restructuring.

3#. Medicines

In some cases, antidepressant or antianxiety drugs may be prescribed to treat underlying conditions that contribute to the disorder.

4#. Support Groups

Joining support groups, such as Debtors Anonymous, can provide emotional and practical support from others facing similar problems.

It's not just a bad habit!

Understanding that compulsive spending is a disease and not just a bad habit is crucial to seeking help and appropriate treatment. If you or someone you know is struggling with oneomania, it's important to seek professional support. With the right treatment, it is possible to overcome this disorder and regain financial and emotional control.

If this article has been useful to you, consider sharing it with friends or family. Raising awareness is the first step towards helping those who may be suffering in silence. Remember: asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Have you ever wondered if you need to file an income tax return? This can be a common question for many Brazilians, especially when we're not familiar with the rules and criteria that make it mandatory. Relax, you're not alone! Let's understand together in a clear and simple way how to know whether or not you have to make this declaration.

Understanding Income Tax

First of all, let's take a step back and think: what is Income Tax anyway? Income tax is a tax levied by the government on your income throughout the year. This includes salaries, rents, investment earnings and even lottery winnings. In other words, everything you've earned may be subject to a portion to be collected by the government.

But calm down, it's not that simple and not everyone has to declare. There are well-defined criteria for knowing who is on the list of those obliged to declare and who doesn't need to worry. Want to find out if you're on it? Let's get going!

Who needs to file an income tax return?

Here begins the part that may seem complicated, but which we'll uncomplicate together. First of all, there are certain criteria that determine whether a declaration is mandatory. Ask yourself:

  • Did you have an annual income of more than R$ 28,559.70 in 2023? This is one of the main points. If your total earnings (such as salary, pension or other taxable income) exceeded this amount last year, then yes, you need to declare.
  • Did you have exempt, non-taxable or exclusively taxed income above R$ 40,000.00? If you received amounts such as FGTS, compensation for an accident at work or even some types of financial investments that amounted to more than 40,000 reais, you must also declare them.
  • Did you make a capital gain on the sale of goods or rights? If, for example, you sold a property and made a profit, you need to report this.
  • Have you traded on the stock exchange? Even if you've bought and sold a few shares, if you've made a profit or even a loss, it's time to declare it.
  • Do you have any assets or properties with a total value of more than R$ 300,000.00? If you own an apartment, a house or even land that together exceeds this value, the IRS wants to know.

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, the answer is clear: you need to file your income tax return.

What if I don't fit any of these criteria?

Now, what if you don't fit any of the above points? Then you probably don't need to declare. However, pay attention: even if you don't have to, it can still be interesting to declare.

Did you know, for example, that declaring your income tax helps when applying for a mortgage? Financial institutions generally consider your declaration as proof of income. What's more, if tax has been withheld during the year, you may receive a refund. In other words, you may end up getting back some of the tax you overpaid.

How should you declare?

Have you identified yourself in one of the situations in which you are obliged to declare and now you want to know how to do it? All right, there's no need to be alarmed. Declaring your income tax today is much easier than it used to be.

The IRS offers a program that can be downloaded onto your computer or even an app that allows you to file your tax return directly from your cell phone. You'll need to gather documents such as proof of income, receipts for medical and educational expenses and other information that could have an impact on your calculation. The more detailed and organized you are, the smoother the process will be.

An important tip: keep your receipts in one place throughout the year. That way, when it comes time to file your tax return, you won't have to chase through paperwork and you'll avoid headaches.

What happens if I don't declare?

Are you still in doubt and thinking about letting it go? Well, you should know that not declaring your income tax when you have to can have some very unpleasant consequences. We're talking about fines of up to 20% of the tax due, as well as having your CPF pending with the IRS. This can prevent you from opening bank accounts, applying for loans, issuing a passport and even taking up public office.

And nobody wants that kind of headache, do they? That's why it's very important to get organized and make sure your situation is up to date with the IRS.

Tips to make your life easier with Income Tax

Now that you know whether or not you need to declare, and have understood how it's done, how about some tips to make everything go more smoothly?

  1. Plan throughout the yearKeep all your receipts, medical expenses and other deductions well organized. An envelope or a digital folder can help a lot.
  2. Use technology to your advantageThere are apps and systems that can help you keep track of your finances and categorize your income and expenses, making it much easier to file your tax return.
  3. Don't leave it to the last minuteThe deadline for filing tax returns is usually in April, but don't wait until the last day. Technical problems and overloading of the tax office's systems are common at this time.
  4. Consult an accountant if you need toIf you have many sources of income, assets or don't feel confident about filing the tax return yourself, hiring an accountant can be an excellent investment to avoid future problems.

So, do you need to declare?

We've come to the end of this conversation, and I hope I've been able to help you better understand whether or not you need to file your income tax return. The most important thing is not to leave this responsibility behind, because even if it seems like a lot of work, being up to date with your tax obligations is something that gives you security and avoids future complications.

After all, you want to sleep soundly, don't you? If you still have doubts or need help, don't hesitate to seek information or even professional help. Filing your income tax return doesn't have to be a headache, as long as you have the right information and a bit of organization.

How are you preparing for this year's Income Tax? Let us know in the comments! Maybe you can help someone who is also in doubt. Let's go on this tax journey together!

The PIS (Social Integration Program) is a subject that always raises questions. After all, who doesn't want to know if they're going to get that extra bit of money every year? Then you stop and think: "Am I entitled to PIS? Will I receive it this year? It's natural to be curious, especially when the value of the benefit makes all the difference to your budget. Let's clarify all this in a simple and straightforward way. Come with me!

What is PIS?

First, let's understand what PIS is. In practical terms, PIS is a program created to benefit workers in the private sector. It was designed to integrate the worker into the company's development. But at the end of the day, what most people are really interested in is the salary allowance, isn't it? So, if you've heard of PIS, bonus or 14th salary, we're talking about practically the same thing.

The point is that many people confuse the salary bonus with the balance of the Guarantee Fund (FGTS), but they are different things. The salary bonus is paid annually to workers who meet certain specific requirements - and that's what we're going to talk about now. You may be among the beneficiaries and not even know it!

Who is entitled to PIS?

"But, after all, who is entitled to PIS?". That's the question everyone asks. In order to receive the PIS salary allowance, certain requirements must be met, and this is where many people get lost. Let's be clear:

  1. Portfolio registrationYou need to have worked at least 30 days, consecutive or not, in the base year, with a formal contract. And when I say "in the base year", I'm talking about the year before the year in which the payment is made.
  2. Average Income: Your average salary must be up to two minimum wages. In other words, if you earn more than that, you don't qualify for PIS.
  3. PIS/PASEP registrationYou need to have been registered with PIS/PASEP for at least five years. This means that your first job with a formal contract must have been five years ago or more.
  4. RAIS InformedThe company where you worked must have correctly informed you in the RAIS (Annual Social Information Report). Without this, there is no payment.

If you meet all these requirements, congratulations! You're entitled to PIS. But calm down, it's not that simple. Let's talk a little more about the details.

Do I get PIS every year?

Now comes the big question: "Who is entitled to PIS every year?". The answer is... It depends! Yes, I know, this answer is frustrating, but let me explain.

The PIS salary allowance is paid annually, but that doesn't mean you'll automatically receive it every year. It all depends on whether you continue to meet the requirements I mentioned above. If, for example, in a given year you earn more than two minimum wages on average, you won't be entitled to PIS the following year. Or, if you're unemployed for a whole year, you won't receive the allowance the following year either, as you haven't completed the 30 days worked.

Another important point is that the amount of the salary allowance is proportional to the months worked in the base year. So, if you only worked for six months, you'll receive half the maximum amount. In other words, it's no use counting on the full amount if you haven't worked all year.

How do I know if I will receive PIS?

"Okay, I've understood everything, but how do I know if I'm going to receive the PIS?". Good question! The easiest way to find out if you are entitled to PIS is to check directly on the official channels, such as the Box Has or My INSS. You can also call Caixa Econômica Federal, the bank responsible for PIS payments, and make an inquiry using your CPF or Social Identification Number (NIS).

However, be patient. Information is often not available at the beginning of the year. The release of the payment schedule usually follows the month of the beneficiary's birthday, so it's a good idea to keep an eye on these dates so you don't miss out on the benefit.

Caramelized banana cake is an irresistible dessert that combines the softness of the pastry with the sweet taste of the caramel syrup. This recipe is perfect for those looking for a homemade treat that delights both the eye and the palate. Check out how to prepare this delicious treat and impress with a moist, tasty cake with brilliant icing!

Ingredients

For the caramelized syrup:

1# 1 cup sugar
1# 1/2 cup hot water
1# Ripe bananas cut into slices (approx. 4 pieces)

For the dough:

1# 3 eggs
1# 1 cup sugar
1# 1/2 cup oil
1# 3 mashed bananas
1# 1 cup milk
1# 2 cups wheat flour
1# 1 tablespoon baking powder

How to prepare

1# Syrup preparation

Start with the syrup. In a saucepan, melt the sugar over a low heat until it forms a golden caramel. It's important to stir so that it doesn't burn. Once the caramel is ready, add the hot water little by little (be careful, it might splash!). Stir until the syrup is smooth. Then pour the syrup into the bottom of a greased pan. Place the banana slices on top, covering the entire surface.

2# Dough preparation

In a blender, beat the eggs, sugar, oil, mashed bananas and milk until the mixture is smooth. In a bowl, add this mixture to the dry ingredients (flour and yeast). Stir gently until the dough is smooth and lump-free.

3# Assembly and baking

Pour the batter over the caramelized bananas in the tin. Bake in a preheated oven at 180ºC for about 40 to 45 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and passes the toothpick test (when you poke a toothpick in, it should come out clean).

4# Unmolding the cake

Wait for the cake to cool slightly before unmolding, so that the syrup doesn't stick to the pan. Carefully turn it out onto a large plate, leaving the caramelized bananas as a topping.

Tips for the best cake

1# Use very ripe bananas for more flavor and sweetness.
1# If you prefer, add cinnamon powder to the dough for a special aromatic touch.
1# Serve the cake still warm with a scoop of ice cream for an even more delicious dessert.

Caramelized banana cake is a perfect choice for an afternoon coffee or a special snack with the family. The mixture of caramel, bananas and fluffy pastry guarantees a remarkable dessert. Enjoy every slice!
